Walking the Innovation Talk at the Rock

Senior Master Sgt. Christopher Holman, 386th Expeditionary Wing Civil Engineering Squadron operations superintendent (right) and Master Sgt. Trevor Wilkinson, 386th ECES facilities superintendent (left) wrapped up their six-month deployments by moving forward the timeline for increased night-time flying capabilities at Ali Al Salem Air Base, Kuwait. The two Airmen conducted in-depth research and data collection in order to demonstrate the viability of purchasing solar runway lights as a timely and inexpensive option. As the project moves forward, it also has the potential to increase the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing's Agile Combat Employment (ACE) Capabilities.

Fusion of information dishes up threat intelligence

The Intelligence Fusion Cell is a collaboration between local agencies within the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing, such as security forces, intelligence, anti-terrorism and the office of special investigations. Each serves a different function, but works towards the same goal: protection of the base and its resources.

Defenders protect ASAB from drones

The 386th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron works within the Wing Operations Center at Ali Al Salem Air Base, Kuwait, to monitor and detect the area around the base to protect service members from possible drone threats.

MASCAL: Unity is strength

Dilapidated ruins in what felt like the middle of nowhere, surrounded by sand, made for the perfect atmosphere for a mass casualty exercise. With heat well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit and the sun beating down their faces, people slowly filled the scene drenched in sweat and fake blood – passersby would have taken one look and assumed a zombie apocalypse was about to take place. Exercise. Exercise. Exercise. The emergency call was made, and the simulated victims came to life – screaming for help, crying in pain and waiting for first responders to arrive. The 386th Air Expeditionary Wing alongside its coalition partners participated in a mass casualty exercise here, May 19. For this iteration, the wing had volunteers to act as simulated casualties with injuries from a staged bombed observation post.

Calm, collected and ready to walk into the unknown. A defender is trained to be mentally prepared to handle almost any situation they might encounter. Continuous training and exposure to countless scenarios, with the help of technology, allows defenders to play through responses to see what works best in handling and deescalating situations.
